Frequently Asked Questions

Absolutely. Your dog’s safety is my top priority. I treat every dog with the same care and attention I always gave to Ace. The trails we hike are well-traveled and chosen specifically for their safety and accessibility. While we may come across some wildlife along the way, I take every precaution to ensure your dog stays comfortable, secure, and under control at all times.

E-collars are used purely as a tool to create clear, consistent communication between me and your dog on the trail. I pair gentle vibrations or low-level stimulations with voice commands so your dog understands exactly what’s being asked of them.
Once a dog is conditioned to it, we can communicate seamlessly and effectively—keeping them focused, responsive, and safe in a dynamic outdoor environment. The collar acts as an invisible safety leash, allowing me to quickly redirect your dog away from immediate trail hazards like poison oak, steep drop-offs, or sudden wildlife encounters. Ultimately, it makes every adventure much safer and more enjoyable for both of us.

When I talk about high-energy breeds, I’m referring to dogs that require a high level of physical exercise, structure, and mental stimulation to stay happy, healthy, and well-behaved.
These are typically working, herding, or sporting breeds (and their mixes) that:
Thrive on Intensity: They love long hikes, running, and active play on a regular basis.
Need a Job to Do: They are often incredibly smart and genuinely need training, problem-solving, and tasks to feel fulfilled.
Channel Boredom Destructively: Without the right outlet, they easily get bored, restless, or destructive at home.
Think of "go-all-day" types like Border Collies, Australian Shepherds, Siberian Huskies, German Shorthaired Pointers, Belgian Malinois, and similar driven breeds. If your dog has a high engine and a desire to explore, they are exactly who we built this service for.

Because our hikes navigate rugged mountain terrain, they are designed to be both highly physically demanding and mentally stimulating. They are true workouts, not just casual walks.
The Sweet Spot: For most high-energy dogs, an adventure once every other week is plenty to notice major positive behavioral changes, like better focus and calmer, more balanced energy at home.
The Maximum: I recommend a maximum of once per week to ensure your dog has adequate time for muscle recovery and rest between treks.
Our goal is to keep your dog healthy, happy, and injury-free for the long haul!

Unfortunately, due to safety protocols and Marin County trail regulations, we are unable to accommodate dogs with known aggression issues.
However, if you are unsure where your dog falls or if they are simply reactive/high-strung on leash, please feel free to reach out with details. I’d be happy to discuss their specific behaviors, perform an assessment, and let you know if they would be a safe fit for our solo trail adventures.
